When Flash becomes an artform

WonderputtFlash has been responsible for bringing animation, gaming and high impact advertising to the web but when does it become an artform? Recently I discovered Wonderputt, a collaborative project between designer / coder Reece Millidge – DAMP GNAT and sound designer Dan Millidge – Redtone Media. The name ‘Wonderputt would seem to indicate a mini-golf game and no more. However, load it up and you discover this is something so much more special.

Playing through the sequence of ‘courses’ feels like a journey rather than purely a challenge. The music and sound is as integral to the experience as the animation and isometric landscape. It’s a relaxing experience but that said, the gameplay is still demanding and quite addicting with additional elements coming in to play on subsequent plays.

Every now and then an interactive project comes along that reminds me why I’m so passionate about Flash and why I need to keep pushing the boundaries of what I can do. Reece and Dan Millidge I salute you!
