I took my mum out for a belated birthday dinner on Tuesday. The first thing the waiter asked me was, “Are you here on the Groupon Deal?” We weren’t and were oblivious to any offers. This did not go down well with my thrifty mother who kept apologising to me all night for the fact I was paying full whack! I’d actually preferred that we’d not been told that we could have had the very same dinner for half the price.
Online deals are fine, but they must be applied sensibly (externally and in-house), or risk eroding margins and/or really aggravating other customers – as happened in my case! I used to be quite happy paying full price at this restaurant: but never again!
